ANDREAS CLAUSSEN: PAINTINGS THAT MAKE YOU SMILE AND WONDER

Andreas Claussen (born 1988) is a contemporary painter known for his distinct style of Imaginative Realism and his narrative-driven FLOOD series. Blending heavy impasto and fragmentation with pop-culture aesthetics, Claussen creates post-apocalyptic landscapes and figurative works that are less about doom and more about the 'SNAFU' state of mind: Accepting the chaos with a stoic smile.

In Claussen’s universe, the world has been reclaimed by nature and water. His protagonist - a lonely astronaut in a red suit - wanders through these submerged playgrounds like a futuristic tourist. Whether drifting on inflatable animals like his pink flamingo, exploring ruins, or collecting the scattered fragments of modern life, this figure symbolizes human resilience and adaptation. Here, Looney Tunes logic and Doomsday Prepping meet the Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi, finding beauty in the imperfect and the fleeting.

Claussen portrays a post-apocalyptic world not as a nightmare, but as a stage for transformation. His mission is to celebrate the beauty of transience and the irony of humanity's downfall, inviting us to smile and wonder what will remain of us. In an era of digital perfection and AI, Claussen’s work remains unapologetically physical - thick layers of oil paint capture the texture of a decaying yet vibrant world.

Andreas Claussen lives and works in Germany. His work is collected internationally and has been exhibited in prominent galleries and art fairs across the US, UK, and Europe. He paints for those who seek to add a bold and humorous touch to their lives - reminding us that if everything is going under, the only thing left to do is laugh and keep swimming.
